Overview

The Taxonomy Dropdown Widget plugin for WordPress transforms non-hierarchical taxonomies, like post tags, into dropdown lists, offering an organized alternative to traditional tag clouds. Users can deploy multiple widgets, each customizable with an array of formatting options such as setting the maximum number of terms, ordering terms, and truncating term names. The plugin also includes the flexible `taxonomy_dropdown_widget()` function to facilitate dropdown generation outside the widget framework. Compatible with WordPress 4.2+ due to changes in taxonomy data storage, this plugin was significantly overhauled in version 2.0, previously known as the Tag Dropdown Widget. Users and developers can follow and contribute to its ongoing development on GitHub.

User sentiment analysis

Users appreciate this WordPress plugin for effectively fulfilling specific needs, such as avoiding the use of a Tag Cloud. Its intuitive design makes it easy to use, even for those without extensive technical knowledge. Users commend the plugin for its functionality, especially for websites with numerous tags or those that review series. However, there are a few drawbacks mentioned: it does not sync well with other filters, the reset button is non-functional, and there is an unresolved PHP 7.3 error message that users find challenging to fix. Despite these issues, the plugin is widely regarded as a valuable tool that saves users time and effort.

This was a life saver. Exactly, and I mean, exactly what I needed. The client was dead set against a Tag Cloud and after some rigorous searching, I kept coming back to this page. Thank you Erick. You made it look easy! This topic was modified 3 years, 9 months ago by rowhouse.

Looks and works great. Could you just provide a tiny update to help get rid of the PHP 7.3 error message that I can’t remove and which is displayed in the top area of the login page? FYI, the error message is the following: Warning: “continue” targeting switch is equivalent to “break”. Did you mean to use “continue 2”? in /home/directory/www/module/wp-content/plugins/tag-dropdown-widget/tag-dropdown-widget.php on line 430. I could not find any info intelligible enough to fix this by myself. All I did so far is check that WP_DEBUG is set to false in wp-config.php. Many thanks in advance This topic was modified 5 years, 5 months ago by Qualiweaver.
