Overview

The Easy Add Thumbnail plugin is designed to streamline the process of setting featured images for your WordPress posts and pages. With over 10,000 active installs, this plugin ensures that your content always features an image by automatically assigning one if none is provided. It seamlessly integrates with the WordPress editor, setting featured images dynamically for old posts when needed for the frontend display and during the publishing process for new content. This plugin is straightforward to use, requiring no additional configuration pages. It operates by adding the _thumbnail_id meta key to posts, ensuring no extra data is added to the WordPress database. Ideal for users who desire a hassle-free way to manage featured images, Easy Add Thumbnail respects theme settings for image display and can be adjusted to exclude certain post types via filters.

User sentiment analysis

Users appreciate this plugin for its simplicity, effectiveness, and the significant time-saving benefits it offers. It works as described, automatically setting featured images from the first image in each post, which is particularly useful for those migrating websites, updating old posts, or using themes that rely on featured images. Users praise its ease of use—requiring minimal setup and delivering instant results. However, drawbacks include occasional issues where the first image isn't correctly identified, especially if resized, and difficulties with custom post types. Additionally, once activated, some users find it challenging to revert changes, leading to duplicate images or the need for manual corrections. Despite these issues, the overall feedback remains highly positive.

Very nice, simple, super effective plugin. It would be nice to set a default image as a “no image here” like image if no images are in the post.

Great plugin that does what it says, adds featured images from the first image in each post when a featured image hasn’t been set. Easy Peazy. Helps tremendously with magazine themes and others that expect a featured image. Thanks for the excellent plugin!
