Overview

Flexible Posts Widget (FPW) is a highly customizable WordPress plugin designed to provide a robust alternative to the default Recent Posts widget. FPW allows advanced users to curate and display posts from any combination of post types or taxonomies with ease. The plugin offers an array of customizable features including options to tailor the widget title, select posts by type, taxonomy, or specific post IDs, and adjust the number of displayed posts with offset functionality. Users can also showcase post feature images in various sizes, order posts by several criteria such as date or title, and sort them in ascending or descending order. Moreover, FPW supports user-defined templates for personalized widget output and offers multilingual compatibility with WPML and PolyLang. User sentiment analysis

Users appreciate this WordPress plugin for its flexibility, ease of use, and extensive customization options. It supports all custom post types and taxonomies, allowing for detailed control over what posts to display. Users particularly like the ability to create and use custom templates and the feature to exclude certain posts. Many reviews highlight that the plugin's clean code and the professional, helpful support provided by the developer are major pluses. However, several drawbacks are noted. It lacks a visual design, and users find the absence of the post publishing date frustrating. Other issues include no support for multiple taxonomies and missing basic features like opening links in a new window, shortcode support, and tiled display options. Some updates have caused compatibility issues, and the default settings can sometimes lead to no posts being displayed.

The URI are different when you’re admin or just subscriber. Don’t work for everyone.

I can Select a Taxonomy as shown in the plugin screenshot, “Tags” for instance, but there is no Select Terms box. Without a way to select which tags, this plugin is useless. I suspect it needs to be updated. How so many non-functioning never-updated plugins are allowed to remain listed for all time at WordPress… So frustrating.

Imagine, you have a post about wedding and in the footer the flexible post widget shows – when the crawler passes – in the category “practical tipps” the post “public toilets”. When you search “public toilets in the city x” as result the search engine will give out the post of the wedding. Probably it would be necessary to noindex the output of the widget. I and others evidenced the problem to support but no answer. I’m actually looking for an alternative as this behaviour of the widget is not acceptable.

It works properly, but it lacks a nice visual design and above all, for what it is, it’s not understandable how come it doesn’t display the date of publishing of the posts.
