Overview

The Front-end Editor WordPress plugin empowers users to make content changes directly on their site without needing to access the admin backend, thus streamlining the process of correcting typos and other edits. It maintains the same capability checks as wp-admin, ensuring that users without editing permissions are restricted from making changes. The plugin allows for the editing of posts, pages, custom post types, comments, widgets, and various other elements, all while aiming to minimize backend trips and ensure compatibility with any theme. Designed to be both light and fast, the plugin is supported by designsimply and is no longer actively developed, although patches from the community on Github are still applied. The WYSIWYG editing component is powered by Aloha Editor.

User sentiment analysis

Users highly appreciate this WordPress plugin for its ability to simplify content management with its intuitive and straightforward inline editing features. Many users find it saves them considerable time and is easy to set up and use, even for those with less technical expertise. The plugin is especially valued by those managing content-heavy websites or needing to delegate content editing to staff, as it restricts editing permissions effectively. However, the plugin has significant flaws, including compatibility issues with PHP 7, CSS disruptions in certain themes, and problems with other plugins such as BBPress and BuddyPress Docs. Users also report bugs that complicate the editing process, such as disappearing elements and display issues.

It’s a shame it doesn’t work anymore in the latest WordPress. It was the best inline wordpress editor – no fuss, not heavy, very clean UI. Please update it!

Tried this on two different themes – using different computers. If main admin was open then for one site there would be a 40 second plus delay in opening the website front end and on the other site the front end would not open at all, I had to use different browser to check edits. Even working in only the admin edit page area the same issues occurred with the Preview Changes feature. Same issue in both Chrome and IE (latest version of browsers) This issue occurred on two Windows 7 PCs and a Mac Even if it did work (as obviously it does for some) the editing and checking process is probably longer when developing a page.
