As the Founder of a wildlife conservation non-profit, I wrote to UM requesting details regarding possible services and support offered to non-profits. What I received was a dismissive response, not only informing us that UM do not offer such services or support to non-profits, but doing so in an unnecessarily adversarial manner. My email was polite. Our intent is to save endangered wildlife and ecosystems, not make what UM have chosen to interpret as some form of insult to UM. The UM reply was unnecessary, unwarranted, and rude. We will not be recommending UM to anyone. Our advice; think twice before choosing this team to work with. We will also be recommending another partner of ours, a payment gateway, who works with UM that, to protect their brand and reputation, they consider terminating their relationship with this UM. To UM – if this is your attitude to a simple enquiry from a wildlife conservation nonprofit, then frankly, you do not deserve to retain any customers or partners yourselves, with this approach to potential new business. We are used to being refused support. We are used to being insulted for what we do. However your attitude is one of the worst we have encountered for some time. You are a disgrace.

If you are looking for a member directory that supports your members in search/sorting/filtering to find members based on specific criteria this plugin can do it – but it’s an ugly, un-intuitive, confusing and unalterable UX. I’ve submitted numerous tickets, never heard back. It seems impossible to make basic changes like having the text ‘More Filters’ appear anywhere near the actual filters. The keyword search box has light gray ‘instructional’ text that says Search, and the button next to it says Search – not only redundant, but confusing. The location extension (which is a reasonable $50/year) makes the directory UX even more messy and confusing. It shouldn’t be so hard/impossible to clearly labe and move the filter/sort/search fields around so they make sense.

The plugin is great and I’ve been using it for a long time. I have a suggestion to make: during the registration, if the email field is being validated to be an unique email, when a user tries to register with an email that is already being used, the error message is “The email you entered is incorrect”It would be best to show a message like “The email you entered is already registered”.I’ve made the change under /core/um-actions-form.php (line 926 (I’ve only changed to my specific case where the validation is only for the email). But of course, I would like to have this small change made into the plugin so that I don’t have to change that piece every time there’s an update 🙂Many users forget they already registered and either don’t do anything (thinkin the site is not working) or raise tickets why does’t allow them to register (and again, they think there’s an error on the website). I understand the “generic” message since we don’t reveal that the user already exists. But that’s a false security feeling in my opinion. Fingers crossed the UM team agrees with me!

I used this plugin and also purchased the full extension package. It works perfectly. I had a few questions for the support team and they answered them quickly and clearly. I can highly recommend it.
