Overview

The "Disable Author Pages" WordPress plugin is designed to improve user navigation and security by disabling author archive pages, commonly accessed via URLs like /author=?. Instead of showing these potentially unwanted pages, the plugin seamlessly redirects visitors to a different, specified page of your choice, such as your homepage or a custom webpage of your own design. This helps in avoiding issues related to unnecessary content duplication and can enhance the user experience by guiding visitors to more relevant sections of your site.

Improved Security

  • Prevents potential attackers from gathering information about authors.
  • Reduces the risk of targeted attacks on specific user accounts.

Enhanced Privacy

  • Protects the identity of authors by hiding their profiles.
  • Prevents unauthorized access to author-specific content.

Better User Experience

  • Redirects users to relevant content instead of showing an author page.
  • Reduces confusion for users who might not be interested in author-specific information.

SEO Optimization

  • Prevents duplicate content issues by eliminating author archives.
  • Improves site structure by focusing on more relevant pages.

User sentiment analysis

Users appreciate the WordPress plugin for its ease of use, effectiveness, and security enhancements. They find it invaluable in preventing unauthorized access to author pages, thus mitigating the risk of brute force attacks and spam. The plugin also offers flexibility in redirecting users or displaying custom error pages, which many find useful for both security and user experience. However, some users noted potential improvements. These include adding a robots.txt feature to prevent search engine crawling and enabling redirections to 404 or 403 error pages. Another suggested enhancement is full compatibility with WordPress Multisite (WPMS) for easier site-wide management. Overall, it’s deemed a highly effective security tool.

How can you disable certain authors vs all or groups. For example, there is only one author I’d like to disable a page to, or redirect it to a custom page. All other authors I’d like to keep as normal.

It does what it’s supposed to do. However, there are two features that I think would make this much better: – Have a robots.txt addition option that prevents search engines from crawling these links – Make it possible to redirect to the 404 or 403 page. Currently we can only choose ‘regular’ pages, and have to choose between 301 or 307 protocol (I’m not even sure what for).
